51-year-old IDâd as man found slain in driveway of abandoned house in northeast Jefferson County
Authorities have released the name of a man found shot to death in northeast Jefferson County on Sunday.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Anthony Dewain Word. He was 51 and lived in Birmingham.
Deputies responded just before 3 p.m. Sunday to a report of shots fired and a person down in the 5700 block of Dewey Heights Road.
They arrived to find Word unresponsive in the driveway of an abandoned house. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 3:12 p.m.
Lt. Joni Money said witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots in the area. Law enforcement radio communicates indicated as many as 20 shots were fired.
No arrests have been made.
